Bear River Whitewater Park

Petoskey Michigan

The Bear River Valley in the middle of Petoskey Michigan encompasses the Bear River Whitewater Park.  Located on a free flowing section of the Bear River, the park is a great example of a community returning a river to a natural state by removing dams and pulling together to clean up former industrial areas.  The numerous holes and play areas are bordered by footpaths and paved bicycle trails.  Overlooks and Foot bridges provide spectators with great views of the course.  Approximately one mile long the river falls 75 feet to Little Traverse Bay.  Picnic Shelters and Public Restrooms are available.

Public Access Areas:

  • Sheridan Street Put-in & Parking
  • Porter Street walking/bicycle Access
  • Ione Street Access
  • Fulton Street Access
  • Elizabeth Street Access
  • Lake Street Access /Take-out

While the Sheridan street put-in is the start of the course, it is possible to park at the Lake Street take-out and carry your boat upstream.  The lower section of the park is designed to be a "Walking Course"
